The Comelec has denied disqualification cases filed by Erly Pamatong against Lito Lapid and the boxing champ Manny Pacquiao. Pamatong questioned the lack of academic credentials by the two candidates saying that Lapid was “hardly educated and knew little about lawmaking” and Pacquiao as “mentally poor and not prepared to step into the ring of legislation.” The Comelec said that “having a high IQ is never a gauge of good public service.”
Personally, I believe that to be a good leader of this country, one must be competent morally (knows what is good and does what is good), spiritually (believes in the one true God, regardless of his/her religion), intellectually (has good academic performance, knows what he is doing), must have the heart to help and most importantly, not corrupt.
Being in politics means, you know how to enforce or execute the law, how to enact a law. To do this, you must have the brains not necessarily the biggest brain, at least, a brain capable of making good and reasonable legislations to truly advocate for the needs of the people. However, brains must be coupled with selflessness and true devotion to the people.
