Movies and Christmas
Instead of studying for two upcoming exams, numerous recitations and one mandatory recitation, I chose to put on the tv and dvd and watched "Shoot Em Up." I wasn't disappointed. I can't believe myself saying this "the movie rocks."haha It was a no-brainer flick but nonetheless it was exciting, and definitely attention-grabbing. As aptly observed by a friend, it was a male version of the Kill Bill movie. There were many firsts in this movie - the sticking out of a carrot in the head, the laboring of a pregnant woman amidst the gun battles, the covering of the baby's head with a sock as bonnet, the gunfight in the middle of a lovemaking, the gunfight during a sky diving, the gunfight and jumping from one building to another while carrying a baby, the knocking and answering of the door by a nun who turned out to be a whore wearing nothing but a g-string on her behind, and the list goes on. The chemistry between Clive Owen and Monica Belucci was a click. As if that movie was not enough I still went to the
mall and watched Nicole Kidman's "The Golden Compass." Unlike "shoot em up" this one kind of let me down. I expected more from it. But contrary to the email messages spreading that this was an atheist film, I really did not see why is it so. I am a big believer of God myself but I saw nothing wrong about this movie that I would say was blasphemous. There are other movies that are more blasphemous. As long as we are grounded on our faith no movie can affect and convince us of believing otherwise. As I went home, I made it a point to observe the different Christmas decorations along the way. They ranged from the elaborate to the simplest Christmas trees, stars and lights. But there were other houses and establishments that really did not care to place any decors. I appreciate those that had the smallest parols suspending from their ceili
ngs instead of those that are so "kill joy" to put anything to celebrate the season. It's sad that the tradition that we Filipinos are known for - the putting of Christmas decors on the start of the ber month - the nation that are the earliest to celebrate the Christmas season - are slowly dying away.
'Tis the season to be jolly fa la la la la la la la..." Don't forget the reason for the season: CHRISTmas

hah! same here. i watched The Mighty Ducks on DVD last night instead of studying for Tax. hehe
i've read an article about the golden compass that says the movie really intented to remove the parts that promote atheism.
as for christmas decors, probably some people lack inspiration or budget for one. buti nalang may Christmas tree kami, hehe... cheap one lang, galing uyanguren.
that's the sad part because lack of money prevents everybody from being happy this holiday... Sumisikat na yang Uyanguren hehe...
