Death of A Professor

Our dean in law school died last Thursday at 9pm. He was bedridden in the ICU of a hospital when his body could no longer take the treatment given by the doctors. He was supposed to undergo surgery to place the dextrose inside his body but he told the doctors "tama na, ayoko na, pagod na ako." That may seem stubborn of him but also it signifies giving in to the Lord's desire to have him back in His loving arms.

His death taught and reminded me of some things: (1) that it is still best to have your own family to take care of you when you get sick or even be there at your wake when you die. Dean, as we all call him, was never able to marry and have his own family. He was living alone except with his maids for most of the 65 years of his life. When he was ailing in the hospital he had only his maids to watch over him except for his constant stream of visitors. But despite that, he had the law students as his children and family who were always present in his wake. (2) Death reminded me once again that life is indeed short. We need to make the most out of it. We should be loving the people around us and appreciating their value in our lives not only when they are gone but most especially when they are still here to feel our appreciation.
