Couch Potato

I spent my morning lying in the couch watching TV. At least I learned something. On CNN, bee-growers and scientists are worrying about the rapid decrease in the bee population. They disclaimed the theory that it may be because of cell phone sites near bee-hives. But they are looking at the possibility of a pesticide that carry pathogens which are harmful to bees. They say that a farm near the area where bees are grown have been applying the pesticide for nearly a year now which is just about the same time when many bees were observed to get sick and die.

I find the issue about bees ironic. I am not really a big fan and I even wanted them exterminated because my fear of getting sting. However, in another part of the world they are in search of ways on how to preserve these bees. One bee-grower was asked on what he feels when he sees his bees decreasing in population. He said he feels empty. Wasn’t it touching? Maybe this time I’d have a different outlook on bees.

Also on CNN, studies show that majority of public high schools in the US that have the highest passing marks in entrance exams are those which have many Asian students. One school is said to have 75% Asians and only 20% whites. This school is among the top five which have the highest passers in entrance exams. An expert from Harvard attributes this to the need of these students to please their family and friends. She described that it is like there is a team which cheers these students to do good in school. So, Are Asian students brighter than the Whites? Go Asians!

In NBA, the New Jersey Nets kicked Cleveland’s butt. New Jersey won by 11 points. Go Jason Kidd! But a sour lost to one of my bets the Phoenix Suns when they lost by a close fight to Spurs. Nash wasn’t in his playing best. They were ahead by a large point in the first 2 quarters but in the 3rd and 4th the big lead started to close in. I was brushing my teeth when the game ended so I wasn’t really able to see the final minutes. Well, at least there is still another game to look forward to. I hope Suns would win this time. Nash deserves a championship.
